Lace Ribbon Slouch Hat

A Summer Hat Pattern by Molly Wood





Needles: 16" circular US6, 16" circular US8, US8 DPNs
Yarn: Worsted weight cotton or cotton blend, approximately 130-150 yards
e.g. Knitpicks Comfy Worsted
Using US6 needles, cast on 84 stitches in the round
- Place marker at beginning of round

Work 8 rounds of garter stitch:
- Odd rows, knit around
- Even rows, purl around

Switch to US8 needles.

Increases:
[K3, M1] x6, K48,
[M1, K3] x6 (96st)
*This puts the garter-stitch
seam in the back and creates
the slouchy shape

Begin pattern:
Rounds 1, 3, 5 [YO, k2, k2tog, k2]
around (16 times)
Round 2 and all even rows knit
Round 7, 9, 11 [k2, ssk, k2, YO]
around
Round 12 knit

Repeat rows 1-12 2 more times, for a total of 36 pattern rows worked.

Decreases: (Switch to DPNs when needed)
Round 1 [YO, k1, k3tog, k2] around (80st)
Round 2 - knit
Round 3 [YO, k1, (slip 2tog as if to k2tog, k1, psso), k1] around (64st)
Round 4 - knit
Round 5 [k1, k2tog, k1] around (48st)
Round 6 knit
Round 7 [k1, k2tog] around (32st)
Round 8 knit
Round 9 slip first stitch; [k2tog] around, then knit together last and first
stitch (16st)
*This is done to maintain the correct top stitch
Round 10- knit
Round 11 [k2tog] around (8st)

Thread yarn through remaining stitches, pull tight, and weave in ends. Begin
enjoying your new summer hat!
