Emotional versus Reasoning

The latest experiment state that there is a link between reasoning and emotion. In the
laboratory experiments which done by Blanchette 2014 show that emotional states affect the
deductive reasoning tasks done by the participants. Blanchette states that the positive or negative
mood will affect the reasoning (Blanchette, Gavigan, & Johnston, 2014). Example like when it
was in happy mood the reasoning answer will be given as positive while when the person is in
negative mood the reasoning will be negative. Besides in the Blanchette report had stated that the
existing and induced depressed moods will affect the reasoning performance. A Neutral mood
person will provide a more logical answer compare to the person which in positive or negative
mood. People are more likely to give a correct answer when they is in neutral contents compare
to emotional (Blanchette, Gavigan, & Johnston, 2014).
In Blanchette had mentions about the others emotional experiment while done by other
researcher in the past which have the different result than his laboratory result. In one of the
report which done by Blanchette and his colleague showed that London people had perform
better on syllogisms involve terrorism-related contents after facing the terrorist attacks in London
when 2005. Studies of sexual abuse victims also have the same result which is have a more
reasoning at abuse- related contents (Blanchette, Gavigan, & Johnston, 2014). The result had
showed that the personally experiences emotional will affect the result of reasoning.
While in the past of the research done by researcher more focus on the negative emotions
affect the reasoning. The studies is still not yet can totally prove the emotions can be really affect
the reasoning of the human due to the lack of experiment on the positive part of emotions.
