A Stroll through the Old Town Gokasho Monday, June 30, 2014 Feel the Japan of Yesteryear The Gokasho district of Higashiomi City is the origin of the so- historical scenery, and is renowned also as a site for shooting period movies. During the annual event <A Stroll through the Old Town Gokasho>, private homes, temples, shrines and other sites display treasures and historical items usually not seen by the public. These displays and a procession of people in period dress are among the many attractions. The Gokasho Shin Omi Merchant-juku over the heyday of Omi merchants (18001920s). People from the various eras step out of the past and casually make their way through the streets of the old town. Come along and feel the atmosphere of days gone by in a blend of traditional and early modern Japan.
