Using Inferences to Make Predictions

Making predictions helps readers connect with and remain interested in the novel. Real
predictions, however, are more than mere guesses. They are inferences based on what has
already happened in the book. Knowing this, make a prediction about what will happen in
the novel after the Logan family organizes a boycott of the Wallace store because of what
the Wallaces did to the Berrys.
1. What do you think will happen to the Logans and the rest of the African-American
community as a result of the boycott?
Make sure to consider the following from Ch. 7:
Mr. Grangers connection to the store, his reputation, his attitude, and
his words
Mr. Jamisons decision to back credit
The actions of the Wallaces
2. Use three pieces of evidence to support your prediction. Include quotations and the page
numbers they are on.
