CONSTRUCTION AND WORKING
MECHANISM OF SLIVER LAP AND
RIBBON LAP MACHINE
In the sliver lap machine a number of card slivers 16 to
32 are fed to the unit, which consists of three pairs of
drafting rollers and two pairs of calendar rollers.

It converts the card slivers into a lap of width 230 to
300 mm and a diameter of 500mm. The weight of the
sliver lap is about 27kg.

Laps from the sliver lap machine are taken to the
ribbon lab machine. This machine consists of four
heads, each processing a single sliver lap. The number
of drafts are about four, so that the weight per meter
of the ribbon lap will be same as that of the sliver lap.

The process of conversion of conversion of trailing
hooks into leading hooks by engaging even number
of machines between carding and comber machine.

Creating a batt with sufficient cohesion to ensure
