Why you might decide not to get vaccinated against A-H1N1

But there's a Pandemic!

We trust the WHO to do what is best for us, but they have moved the goalposts a bit.
At the end of April 2009, they changed the definition of a pandemic to exclude the mortality
element. Now a pandemic only means that there is an outbreak of a disease in at least
two of the WHO world areas, but has nothing to do with how serious it is.
(Declaring a pandemic level 6 allows the WHO to instruct member states, rather than advise them. This may
have political consequences.)

But it's spreading like wild-fire!

In July the WHO advised member states that it was not necessary to confirm Swine Flu by
a lab. test. So the number of cases is not a matter of fact and may well be overestimated.
(In some countries the diagnosis is made over the phone.)

But people are dying out there!

Swine Flu has proved in the Austral winter in the southern hemisphere to be more benign
than seasonal flu.
And to put numbers in context, seasonal flu and its complications is associated with
40,000 deaths in Europe in a 'good' year, and around 220,000 in a bad year.

But it might get worse – what about the second wave of a mutated virus?

If more people start dying, it would be because

1 The virus has mutated (although this hasn't happened in the last 70 years). In
this case the current vaccine is no good anyway.

2 Deaths are due to another virus or viruses. In this case too, the current
vaccine is no good.
Given the contamination problems faced by a vaccine producer back in
February and still not resolved, the 'vaccine' itself might be the source.
