Part I-Tracking Earthquakes

Oceanic to Oceanic Plate Boundary:

5.7 magnitude quake located 8km ENE of Miyako, Japan on July 4th, 2014 at 3:42 UTC (Current Universal Time) with a
depth of 44.940 km.
This occurred on a convergent boundary where earthquake activity can cause volcanoes to form.

Oceanic to Continental Earthquake:
5.5 magnitude quake located 217km NNW of the Northern Marina Islands on May 3, 2014 at 3:57 am UTC with a depth of
68.83 km.
This occurred on a convergent boundary because as the two plates collide together in this region, the more dense
oceanic crust goes under the lighter continental crust creating the underwater volcanic mountain ranges that are part of
the Ring of Fire.

Continental to Continental Plate Boundary:
4.2 magnitude quake located on the Western Xizang-India border region on July 6, 2014 at 7:48 am UTC with a depth of
75.470 km.
This occurred because as the two continental plates collide together, they rise up to create mountain ranges.

Divergent Plate Boundary:
4.5 magnitude quake located 182km SW of Al Qunfidhah, Saudi Arabia on July 10, 2014 at 2:53 PM UTC with a depth of
14.860 km.
This occurred on a boundary where the earth has split apart to the extent that the ground above the plate has created a
rift valley.

Transform Plate Boundary:
4.5 magnitude quake located 69km SE of Tekirova, Turkey on May 4, 2014 at 10:05 pm UTC with a depth of 91.910 km.
This occurred because the plates that grind parallel to each other in this region cause friction resulting in earthquakes.
