Home burglary or security system

a) Things such as sounds and vibrations have to be recorded as well as temperature. The
importance of this is that depending on the knowledge of the intruder and the surrounding
environment, the type of sensor used in the security system cannot be of use.
b) For a security system, there can multiple categories such as temperature, vibration, and
pressure measurement. The technology that can be used are passive infrared detectors,
ultrasonic detectors, glass break detectors, and inertia detectors.
c) Passive infrared detectors require a power supply and sometimes depending on the weather
conditions may cause confusing signals to the detector. They are affordable on the other hand
and are reliable. Ultrasonic detectors are considered obsolete by many security companies and
can be rendered useless if there are sound absorbing materials that will act as obstacles for the
detector. Glass break detectors can be prone to failure if the glass is already cracked and if the
glass is broken with a towel, there is a chance the sound will be too muffled to detect. Inertia
detectors have to be mounted on a barrier of some sort like a fence and it has a fairly high price.

Automobile drivetrain
a) Things such as vibrations, flow rate, and pressure have to be recorded. This is important
because this will prevent catastrophic failures in the vehicle from happening.
b) For a drivetrain multiple categories are noted such as position, pressure, and flow
measurement. The technology that can be used are air flow sensors, pressure sensor, and
fuel-supply pump sensors.
c) Air flow sensors can affect airflow of the engine due to the design and size of the sensor.
The pressure sensors are very expensive and are sensitive to vibrations that may interfere
with measurements. Fuel-supply pump sensors take up valuable space in the fuel tank.
