Monthly Report for Community Services in Lemoore, China Lake and Ventura

October/November 2008

Community Services Events

October 2008
Lemoore Fall Festival-442 of our residents came to the Community Center for an
evening of fall fun! Participants entered into the Pumpkin Carving Contest arrived first.
They were given a carving kit and their choice of pumpkin and then taken to the contest
area. The contest began at 6:00 PM sharp. Contestants were tasked with carving a
pumpkin using only the tools in their kit. The pumpkins were then judged by volunteers
and prizes were awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3prd prize. At check in each child received a
canvas tote bag with a fall picture on the front. They then used fabric markers to create
their own trick or treat bag. Children were also able to color their own flash light to take
with them Halloween night. Face painting, tattoos, a candy bar, bean bag toss and pick an
apple game were other activities attendees could participate in. A Costume Contest was
held with unique categories such as, "Costume boys would like the least." Winners
received a 10$ gift card to Blockbuster. Refreshments of chili and apple cider were served
to attendees. (442 Guests)

November 2008
China Lake November Stroller Strides- Women and children in China Lake took
advantage of the sunny weather to pursue fitness. Moms and tots walked the base getting
in shape twice weekly. (10 Guests)

China Lake Mom and Tot- Once residents check into this event of mom and tot,
parents and kids were able to get refreshments' of veggies and dip, fruit and yogurt and
gold fish for the kids. Once everyone found there seats, the magician from Fun and
Discovery Entertainment started the magical show. The kids were amazed and surprised
by all of the magic tricks that were performed. (25 Guests)

China Lake Guys Day Out- At the check in of this event, the residents were given a ticket
for a drawing for a $50.00 gift card. The guys that came to the event were treated to
dinner and were able to watch the Arizona Cardinals host the 49ers on a 72 inch TV
screen. At half time of the game we picked the winner for the $50.00! This event was in
the monthly newsletter, flyers and mass email. (11 Guests)

China Lake Stork Photos- At stork photos resident dressed their babies in their best and
captured special moments of their children's lives. For some parents this was their very
first photo taken. The parents were very excited and happy about the studio and how the
pictures were taken. (9 Guests)

Lemoore Holiday Family Photos- Family photos were taken at Jack Stones Barn. The
Barn is a beautiful venue with a Barn, Tavern and many other country items, located just
a short drive from the base. The leaves were beginning to change color giving us the
perfect backdrop for photos. Families arrived at their scheduled appointment time and
received a package consisting of 1-8x10, 2-5x7 and 8 wallets. Many commented that this
was the first time they had ever taken a family photo.(76 Guests)

Lemoore Ladies Adventure- Ladies came out to Visalia Adventure Park, located 25
minutes east of NAS Lemoore, for an evening of fun! As they checked in they received a
bracelet allowing them unlimited access to the family go-karts, putt putt, bumper boats,
the batting cages, laser tag and 1-18 minute run on the "Fast Trak." The fast trak features
karts that reach speed up to 45 miles per hour. Ladies were treated to an all you can eat
pizza and salad buffet with beverage. They also received six-dollars in tokens for the
various arcade games. (31 Guests)

Lemoore Turkey Hunt-Two laminated photos of Turkeys were hidden through out each
of the six communities. Guests were instructed to begin looking at 6:00 AM. All Turkeys
were found and the winners received a gift card for a holiday meal. (12 Guests)

Lemoore Guys Day Out- On Friday, November 14th, we hosted Guys' Night Out with
the Fresno Falcons. Twenty of our male residents traveled via chartered bus to Selland
Arena in Fresno, California; where they watched the Fresno Falcons take on the Stockton
Thunder. Attendees received tickets 3 rows away from the ice, a free meal with their
choice of a personal pizza and bag of chips or an all beef hot dog and nachos. Meals were
both served with their choice of large size beverage. Attendees also received a small gift
bag with a rally towel and coupons to participating businesses. The event also paid
tribute to our nations vendors and attendees were encouraged to participate during a
small ceremony on the ice between the 1st and 2nd period. The ceremony recognized all
Veteran's and our group was acknowledged. (20 Guests)

Naval Base Ventura County Spouse Club Holiday Card Making-Spouse enjoyed a
Baked Potato and Soup Bar before learning the basics of Holiday Card Making. Each
attendee was given special glue and a card kit with 5 different Holiday cards to create
inside. Each attendee had a chance to win a basket of card making essentials. Children in
child care had a light lunch with juice and snacks. (48 Guests)

Naval Base Ventura County Book Club Odd Thomas-Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz
was the book that was chosen to be read. The readers gathered at the Country Inn &
Suites and discussed there opinions of Odd Thomas and the outcome of his life. (5
Guests)

Naval Base Ventura County Holiday Family Bingo-At check in residents 6 and up
received bingo cards and daubers, children 5 and under went into child care where they
did there own fun crafts. We had 10 children and 10 adult prizes ready and waiting for
winners. Traditional Bingo snacks were served and Holiday Bingo fun was had by all who
attended! (126 Guests)

Naval Base Ventura County Holiday Family Photos-Families came out and had
professional family photos taken in a natural setting. Each family received an 8x10, 2 5x7
and 8 wallets. (49 Guests)

Homecomings:

Navy Returned:
11-17-08, 11-24-08 and 11-25-08: Naval Air Station Lemoore
Sailors from Carrier Air Group 14 returned to NAS Lemoore from the USS Reagan. The
pilots and the aircraft retuned on November 24th and the rest of the air wing arrived the
following day. The CAG includes the squadrons: VFA-22, VFA-25, VFA 113 and VFA
115.. Flags and Carnations were handed out to approximately 500 friends and family
members of the returning service members.
