Battles

the Battle of Langemarck, 21-24 October 1914

the Battle of Gheluvelt, 29-31 October 1914

the Battle of Nonne Bosschen, 11 November 1914

When the battles started in October 1914, the allies were out
numbered by the German army 2:1. Even with this un fair odds against the
allies, they came through with there great military tactics. The Germans
called the first battle of Ypres, the massacre of innocents. This was because
Germany sent out so many young volunteers to the battle and they had no
chance against the Allies strong army. At the end the Allies held off the
German Army from capturing Ypres. With the end of all the battles in the
first battle of Ypres, it led to the city on Ypres almost complete destroyed.
Warfare
The first battle of Ypres mainly consisted trench warfare. “Trench
warfare is a form of warfare where both combatants have fortified
positions and fighting lines are static.”
The Ypres “Salient”

force managed to hold off an attack”

Aftermath

After the First Battle of Ypres ended the “British

casualties were reported at 58,155, mostly pre-war
professional soldiers, a loss the British could ill-
afford.  French casualties were set at around 50,000,
and German losses at 130,000 men.” The civilian
casualties were also high. Not too many
buildings were left standing after the first
battle of Ypres.“There would be no break through
along the Belgian coast and a tiny cornor of Belgium
remained in the Allied hands. The salient around
Ypres would see many more battles, but would never
