A square is drawn by joining mid points of the
sides of a square. A third square is drawn
inside the second square in the same way and
this process continues indefinitely. If a side of
the first square is 8 CM, what is the sum of
area of all squares?
 8*8 = 64
 The subsequent squares are

Reducing. This form is GP

64,32,16 …
Formulae : A / (1-r)
64 / (1-.5)
=64*2 = 128 ans.

How many 3 digit even numbers can
you form such that if one of the digit is
5, the following digit is 7?
 57X will have following possibilites:
 1*1*5 = 5
 Other even numbers:
 8*10*5 = 400
 (if repeatition is allowed = 405)
 5*7*6 =210
 Total number of possibilities = 215
 (repeatition not allowed).

A man is 20 minutes late for his office, when
he travels with a speed of 20; and 25
minutes early, when he travels at speed of
80. what is the distance?
 Let us assume distance = X

 X/20 – X/80 = 45/60

 4X – X = 60
 X = 20 ans.

A young girl counted on fingures as : Thumb -1;
Index finger - 2 , middle finger – 3 .. And then
reverse .. Thumb -9 and & again reverse … so
on. She counted upto 1994. she ended on
which finger?

 One cycle consists of 8 digits.

 Let us divide 1994/8 =remainder is 2
 2 is on index finger – so this is the
answer.

A one rupee coin is placed on a table. The
maximum number of 1 rupee coins which
can be placed around it with each one of
them touching it and two others is ?

 Here we have to solve this question

with the understanding of geometry.
6 equilateral triangle will form one
hexagon. This circle can take 6
circles around itself.

What is the measure of 5 outer angles in
the following figure (all are equal) ?
 This figure is a combination of –
5 triangles, with one pentagon
Inside
All angles of pentagon are 108*5
Total of all angles of 4 triangles =
5*180 = 900
Outer angles are : 900 -540=360
degree ans.

X can buy either 50 oranges or 40 mangoes.
He retains 10% of his money for taxi fare. If he
buys 20 mangoes, how many oranges had he
bought?
 Let us take LCM of 50 & 40 = 200
 (let us assume price of an orange Rs. 4 &
price of a mangoe Rs. 5)
 Let us assume that he had 200 Rupees.
 He retained Rs. 20 and purchased 20
mangoes = 20*5 = 100
 Now he has Rs. 80 left out. He must have
purchased 80/4 = 20 oranges. Answer.

5/9 of the population is a village are male. If 30%
of the males are married, what is the percentage
of unmarried females in the village in the total
population?
 Let us assume population of the
village to be 900.
 500 are male. 400 are females. 150
males are married. Thus 150 females
are married. Unmarried females are
400-150=250. The % of females
unmarried is : 250/900*100 =27.78%
approx.

An arc makes an angle of 72
degrees at the centre of a
circle of radius 10 cm. what is
its length?
 Perimeter of the circle is :
 2*3.142857*10 =62.85
 Arc is 72 degrees, so length of arc is
 72/360 *62.85 = 12.6 approx.

The smallest number when
subtracted from 43079 makes
it divisible by 9?
 Total fo 43079 is = 23 which is not
divisible by 9. Let us make it 18. for
this we have to subtract 5 from this
number and we will get 43074 which
will be divisible by 9.
 Answer = 5

www.afterschoool.tk
Mention 2 prime factors from which a
number WWXXWWXXWWXX (W & X
represent any digit) is divisible?
 3 & 11
 Here we have 6 W and 6 X thus, it will be
divisible by 3 and when we add alternate
digits, we get 3W+ 3X in one total and
3W+ 3X in another total – their difference
is zero, so this number is divisible by 11.
 Remember the rule: any number, whose
sum of digits is divisible by 3, is also
divisible by 3. Any number, whose sums of
alternate digits have difference of 0 or 11
or in multiple of 11 is divisible by 11.
www.afterschoool.tk
How many 6 digit numbers are
there which are perfect
squares?
 Minimum 7 digit number is 1000000,
which is square of 1000; thus all 6
digit squares will be squres of
numbers less than 1000.
 Minimum 6 digit number is 100000,
which gives us square root of 316.2.
thus we have 999-316 = 683 perfect
squares which are 6 digit numbers.

www.afterschoool.tk
Minimum number of digits in
the smallest number,when
multiplied by 7 gives all 9s is?
 Start dividing 9 by 7 and keep taking
additional 9s
 .You get 6 as answer.

What is the chance that a year selected has
53 Mondays. What will be the chance in case of
leap year?
 In a normal year, we have 365 days.
Divide 365 by 7, we get 52 + 1 extra
day. That extra day can be either day.
Thus probability is 1/7
 In case of leap year, we have 2 extra
day – thus probability is 2/7 .
 Thus in a leap year there is 2/7
probability that the year has 53
Monday (or any other day for that
matter).
