ENG 100 Essay Guidelines

You are required to write two formal five-paragraph essays in this course. Essays should
feature a thesis statement and introductory paragraph; three supporting paragraphs that
provide examples that relate back to your thesis; and a concluding paragraph that
synthesizes your examples and restates your thesis.

Topic #1
Return to paragraph assignment number three: writing about a newsworthy event. Your
task with this assignment is to expand your original paragraph into a five-paragraph
formal essay. Your essay must follow the guidelines above. I will address this assignment
in class. Further, I will announce times to meet should you choose to do so regarding
your essay.

Topic #2
You are free to write your second essay on the topic of your choice. It must follow the
guidelines outlined above. Regardless of the topic you choose, your essay must be
formally written. You are also REQUIRED to meet with me to discuss your topic. I will
make an announcement in class regarding meeting times.
