PRIMARY PREVENTION OF HYPERTESION

I. GENERAL HEALTH PROMOTION


Intake of nutrition rich and balanced food.
Engaging in an active lifestyle and commitment to fitness.
Stressing the importance of adequate rest and sleep.
Practicing effective ways of stress management (meditation, recreation, etc.)
Improving self-awareness for the enhancement of general health (attending health discussions,
reading health materials, etc.)



II. SPECIFIC PREVENTION
Avoiding substances detrimental to cardiovascular health such as smoking, excessive alcohol intake and
illegal drug use.
Controlling intake of fatty and salty food in the diet.
Maintenance or achievement of weight in accordance to normal Body Mass Index.
Increase physical activity such as exercising at least 30 minutes daily in most if not all days of the week.
Intake of dietary supplements such as fish oil and other herbal options.
