The programs final project 1 (CC506) is part of polytechnic curriculum where every student
is required to undergo or perform research or innovating a product related to the courses
taken by the student to meet the requirement for civil engineering diploma.

Chapter 1 : Introduction
Nowadays, there are so many competitors in making innovative and creative product. As a
civil engineering Polytechnic student, we are not excluded in creating, designing and
upgrading as a final project. After we have a long discussion and make some observations,
we have come to an agreement to upgrade the current hand auger. A product which is
innovative and easy to handle. The product which not only be used in school or college for
experimenting purpose but can also be used at other ground site location.

Problem Statement
The current hand auger at Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah takes too much
energy to operate. The time taken to drill or dig up to 1 meter of depth for soil sampling
purpose using the current hand auger is very consuming. The difficulty to penetrate the soil
layer of certain ground conditions using the current hand auger.

Objectives
To ease the burden to operate the hand auger. To reduce the time to drill or dig for soil
sampling using hand auger. To make the hand auger to be able to penetrate any type of soil
conditions.

Scope
The Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah civil engineering student that studies
geotechnic.
