CHROME & STAINLESS STEEL

STEEL BALL MATERIAL

For years, the ball bearing has helped

maintain smooth, flawless machine operations.
The lowly steel ball and bearing were critical to
creating the Industrial Revolution, just as they
are essential components in todays endless
variety of manufacturing, recreational and
high-technology equipment.

52100 Chrome Steel: Contains

chromium and, due to through hardening, has excellent surface quality
and high load capability. A universal
material for many applications.
440C Stainless Steel: A martenistictype stainless steel used extensively
in bearing applications that require
hardness, dimensional stability, corrosion resistance and toughness. 440
balls are resistant to corrosion from
fresh water, steam, crude oil, gasoline,
perspiration, alcohol, blood and food
stuffs. 440 is also magnetic.

316 Stainless Steel: 316 stainless

steel balls provide resistance to
sulfurous acid compounds and other
highly corrosive environments, and
is used in the presence of sulfuric,
phosphoric and acetic acids. It is the
least magnetic of the 300 series.
304 Stainless Steel: 304 Stainless
Steel is an austentistic, unhardened
stainless steel with excellent resistance to corrosion by oxidizing agents,
most organic chemicals, food stuffs
and sterilizing solutions. It has a lower
carbon content than 302 Stainless
Steel and is slightly magnetic.
302 Stainless Steel: 302 Stainless
Steel is extremely tough and corrosion
resistant to oxidizing solutions and
many organic compounds in an
unhardened state. In its annealed
condition it withstands attacks by food
stuffs, dyes, sterilizing solutions and
nitric acid. It is not recommended for
sulfuric or halogen applications, and is
slightly magnetic.

Grade: The guaranteed sphericity expressed in millionths of an inch.

For example, a grade 25 ball is spherically accurate within 25
millionths of an inch.
Sphericity: The difference between the largest diameter and the
smallest diameter on a single ball.
Basic Diameter Tolerance: The maximum allowable deviation from
the basic diameter.

Silicon Nitride Ceramic Balls Grade 5

CERAMIC BALLS

CERAMIC BALL MATERIAL

Silicon Nitride: A new material suitable
for applications where high loads, high
speeds and extreme temperatures are factors. Long life and the need for minimum
lubrication make this material suitable for
extreme applications. Silicon Nitride is
anti-magnetic and resistant to most substances. Maximum useful temperature is
2552F.
Alumina Oxide: This material is resistant
to most corrosive materials, however it is
not recommended for environments containing hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids
or strong alkaline solutions. Maximum
useful temperature is 3180F.
Zirconia: This material is inert to corrosive
materials, with the exception of hydrofluoric
acid and hot concentrated sulfuric acid.
Maximum useful temperature is 1800F.

Ceramic Balls are particularly well suited for

use in extremely harsh environments where
high temperatures, corrosive and erosive
substances are present.
High Performance Bearings: Ceramic ball's
outstanding properties are ideal where high
performance is required.

SOFT CARBON MATERIAL

Soft Carbon: Ball has a carburised case with a soft core. Lends resistance to shock loads and surface wear
while providing good load carrying ability. Used for moderate loads and slow rotations.
CARBON, CHROME AND STAINLESS STEEL BALL APPLICATIONS
Grinding Balls: For surface peening or pulverising of products: cement; refractories; coal; inks; paints; face
powders
Bearing Balls: Thrust and ball bearings: Grade 25, 20. For Bicycles: Grade 200-50.
For Valves: 304 and 306 Stainless.
Ball Burnishing Applications: Steel balls are used mainly in centrifugal and vibratory finishing machines,
tumblers and barrels for applications like burnishing, polishing, mirror finishing, eliminating manual buffing,
improving component surface and Ra value resulting in improved finishes after coating.
Decorative Use: On Spectacle frames, watches, artificial jewelry, handicrafts and designer furniture.
Other Applications: In castors, conveyors, roller skates, drawer slides, door locks, garage doors and ball pens.
Paint Balls: Used in aerosol cans of paint and nail polish bottles as agitators.
