Thank you for choosng Mcrosoft Wndows 8.1 Pro. Ths s a cense
agreement between you and Mcrosoft Corporaton (or, based on where you
ve, one of ts amates) that descrbes your rghts to use the Wndows 8.1 Pro
software. For your convenence, weve organzed ths agreement nto two
parts. The rst part ncudes ntroductory terms phrased n a queston and
answer format; the Addtona Terms and Lmted Warranty foow and contan
greater deta. You shoud revew the entre agreement, ncudng any nked
terms, because a of the terms are mportant and together create ths
contract that appes to you. You can revew nked terms by pastng the

/o% !an I $e the o't%are0 We do not se our software or your copy of t
- we ony cense t. Under our cense, we grant you the rght to nsta and
run that one copy on one computer (the censed computer), for use by one
person at a tme, but ony f you compy wth a the terms of ths agreement.
Typcay, ths means you can nsta one copy of the software on a persona
computer and then you can use the software on that computer. The software
s not censed to be used as server software or for commerca hostng, so
you may not make the software avaabe for smutaneous use by mutpe

Ma( I ma1e a "a!1$, !o,(0 Yes, you may make a snge copy of the
software for backup purposes, and use that backup copy as descrbed beow.
What a"o$t $,datin# the o't%are0 If you nsta the software covered by
ths agreement as an update to your exstng operatng system software, the
update repaces the orgna software that you are updatng. You do not retan
any rghts to the orgna software after you have updated and you may not
contnue to use t or transfer t n any way. Ths agreement governs your
rghts to use the update software and repaces the agreement for the
software from whch you updated. After you compete your update, some
apps may not mgrate or may be ncompatbe wth Wndows 8.1 Pro and
addtona software may be requred to pay back or record certan types of
meda, ncudng DVDs.
Can I tran'er the o't%are to another !om,$ter or $er0 You may
transfer the software to another computer that beongs to you. You may aso
transfer the software (together wth the cense) to a computer owned by
someone ese f a) you are the rst censed user of the software and b) the
new user agrees to the terms of ths agreement. To make that transfer, you
must transfer the orgna meda, the certcate of authentcty, the product
key, and the proof of purchase drecty to that other person, wthout retanng
any copes of the software. You may use the backup copy we aow you to
make or the meda that the software came on to transfer the software. Every
tme you transfer the software to a new computer, you must remove the
software from the pror computer. You may not transfer the software to share
censes between computers. You may transfer Get Genune Wndows
software, Pro Pack or Meda Center Pack software ony together wth the
censed computer.
/o% doe Internet a!ti&ation %or10 The rst tme you connect to the
Internet whe usng the software, the software w automatcay contact
Mcrosoft or ts amate to conrm the software s genune and the cense s
assocated wth the censed computer. Ths process s caed "actvaton."
Because actvaton s meant to dentfy unauthorzed changes to the censng
or actvaton functons of the software, and to otherwse prevent uncensed
use of the software, (o$ ma( not "(,a or !ir!$m&ent a!ti&ation.
Doe the o't%are !olle!t m( ,eronal in'ormation0 If you connect your
computer to the Internet, some features of the software may connect to
Mcrosoft or servce provder computer systems to send or receve
nformaton, ncudng persona nformaton. You may not aways receve a
separate notce when they connect. If you choose to use any of these
features, you agree to send or receve ths nformaton when usng that
feature. Many of these features can be swtched oh or you can choose not to
use them.
/o% do %e $e (o$r in'ormation0 Mcrosoft uses the nformaton t
coects through the software features to upgrade or x the software and
otherwse mprove our products and servces. In certan crcumstances, we
aso share t wth others. For exampe, we share error reports wth reevant
hardware and software vendors so that they can use the nformaton to
mprove how ther products run wth Mcrosoft products. You agree that we
may coect, use, and dscose the nformaton as descrbed n our Prvacy

What doe thi a#reement a,,l( to0 Ths agreement appes to the
software, the meda on whch you receved the software, and aso any
Mcrosoft updates, suppements, and servces for the software, uness other
terms come wth them. It aso appes to Wndows apps that are ncuded wth
Wndows, whch are separate from the software features.

Because the software s censed, not sod, Mcrosoft reserves a rghts (such
as rghts under nteectua property aws) not expressy granted n ths
agreement. In partcuar, ths cense does not gve you any rght to, and you
may not: use or vrtuaze features of the software separatey; pubsh, copy
(other than the permtted backup copy), rent, ease, or end the software;
transfer the software (except as permtted by ths agreement); attempt to
crcumvent technca protecton measures n the software, reverse engneer,
decompe, or dsassembe the software, except f the aws where you ve
permt ths even when our agreement does not. In that case, you may do ony
what your aw aows. When usng Internet-based features or Mcrosoft Famy
Safety, you may not use those features n any way that coud nterfere wth
anyone eses use of them, or to try to gan access to any servce, data,
account, or network, n an unauthorzed manner.
ADDITIONAL TERMS
1. Li!ene Ri#ht and M$lti.)er S!enario
a. Computer. In ths agreement, "computer" means a hardware system
(whether physca or vrtua) wth an nterna storage devce capabe
of runnng the software. A hardware partton or bade s consdered
to be a computer. The software s censed to run on up to two
processors on the censed computer.
b. Mutpe versons. The software ncudes mutpe versons (such as
32-bt and 64-bt versons), and you may nsta ony one of those
versons.
c. Mutpe or pooed connectons. Hardware or software you use to
mutpex or poo connectons, or reduce the number of devces or
users that access or use the software, does not reduce the number of
censes you need. You may ony use such hardware or software f you
have a cense for each copy of the software you are usng.
d. Devce connectons. You may aow up to 20 other devces to access
the software nstaed on the censed computer for the purpose of
usng e servces, prnt servces, Internet nformaton servces, and
Internet connecton sharng and teephony servces on the censed
computer. You may aow any number of devces to access the
software on the censed computer to synchronze data between
devces. Ths secton does not mean, however, that you have the
rght to nsta the software, or use the prmary functon of the
software (other than the features sted n ths secton), on any of
these other devces.
e. Cent Hyper-V. You may use the Cent Hyper-V technoogy n the
software to create a vrtua nstance of ths or other software, but
ony f the software you are creatng the vrtua nstance of permts
you to do that.
f. Use n a vrtuazed envronment. If you use vrtuazaton software,
ncudng Cent Hyper-V, to create one or more vrtua computers on
a snge computer hardware system, each vrtua computer, and the
physca computer, s consdered a separate computer for purposes of
ths agreement. Ths cense aows you to nsta ony one copy of the
software for use on one computer, whether that computer s physca
or vrtua. If you want to use the software on more than one vrtua
computer, you must obtan separate copes of the software and a
separate cense for each copy. Content protected by dgta rghts
management technoogy or other fu-voume dsk drve encrypton
technoogy may be ess secure n a vrtuazed envronment.
g. Remote access. The software contans Remote Desktop and Remote
Assstance technooges that enabe the software or appcatons
nstaed on the censed computer to be accessed remotey from
other devces.
Remote Desktop. Remote Desktop or smar technooges s
censed for a snge user, who s ether accessng that software
from a oca computer or remotey. For ths agreement, you are
the censed snge user. You may access the software runnng on
ths censed host computer from another devce by usng Remote
Desktop. Other users, one at a tme, may access the censed
software runnng on ths host computer from any devce usng
Remote Desktop, but ony f the remote devce s separatey
censed to run a Pro edton of Wndows 8 or Wndows 8.1.
Remote Assstance. You may use Remote Assstance or smar
technooges to share an actve sesson wthout obtanng any
addtona censes for the software. Remote Assstance aows one
user to drecty connect to another users computer, usuay to
correct probems.

b. Notce of Dspute. In the event of a dspute, you or Mcrosoft must
gve the other a Notce of Dspute, whch s a wrtten statement of the
name, address, and contact nformaton of the party gvng t, the
facts gvng rse to the dspute, and the reef requested. You must

f. Arbtraton procedure, costs, fees, and ncentves. Any arbtraton w
be conducted by the Amercan Arbtraton Assocaton (the "AAA")
under ts Commerca Arbtraton Rues. If you are an ndvdua and
use the software for persona or househod use, or f the vaue of the
dspute s $75,000 USD or ess whether or not you are an ndvdua
or how you use the software, ts Suppementary Procedures for
Consumer-Reated Dsputes w aso appy. For more nformaton, see
adr.org or ca 1-800-778-7879. In a dspute nvovng $75,000 USD or
ess, Mcrosoft w prompty remburse your ng fees and pay the
AAAs and arbtrators fees. You and Mcrosoft agree to the terms
governng procedures, fees, and ncentves at

to the AAA. You agree to commence arbtraton ony n your county of

g. Cams or dsputes must be ed wthn one year. To the extent
permtted by aw, any cam or dspute to whch Secton 2 appes
must be ed wthn one year n sma cams court (Secton 2.c) or n
arbtraton (Secton 2.d). The one-year perod begns when the cam
or dspute rst coud be ed. If such a cam or dspute s not ed
wthn one year, t s permanenty barred.
h. Severabty. If the cass acton waver n Secton 2.e s found to be
ega or unenforceabe as to a or some parts of a dspute, then
Secton 2 (arbtraton) w not appy to those parts. Instead, those
parts w be severed and proceed n a court of aw, wth the
remanng parts proceedng n arbtraton. If any other provson of
Secton 2 s found to be ega or unenforceabe, that provson w be
severed wth the remander of Secton 2 remanng n fu force and
ehect.

The aws of the state or country where you ve govern a cams and dsputes
concernng the software (ncudng ts prce) or ths agreement, ncudng
breach of contract cams and cams under state consumer protecton aws,
unfar competton aws, mped warranty aws, for un|ust enrchment, and n
tort, except that the FAA governs a provsons reatng to arbtraton. If you
acqured the software n any other country, the aws of that country appy.
Ths agreement descrbes certan ega rghts. You may have other rghts,
ncudng consumer rghts, under the aws of your state or country. You may
aso have rghts wth respect to the party from whom you acqured the
software. Ths agreement does not change those other rghts f the aws of
your state or country do not permt t to do so.

a. More on how actvaton works. The software w notfy you whether
the nstaed copy of the software s propery censed. Durng
actvaton, the software w send nformaton about the software and
your computer to Mcrosoft. Ths nformaton ncudes the verson,
anguage, and product key of the software, the Internet protoco
address of the computer, and nformaton derved from the hardware

s connected to the Internet, the software w automatcay connect
to Mcrosoft for actvaton. You can aso actvate the software
manuay by Internet or teephone. In ether case, Internet and

b. Re-actvaton. Some changes to your computer components or the
software may requre re-actvaton of the software.
c. Actvaton faure. Durng onne actvaton, f the censng or
actvaton functons of the software are found to be counterfet,
mpropery censed, or ncude unauthorzed changes, actvaton w
fa and the software w attempt to repar tsef by repacng any
tampered Mcrosoft software wth genune Mcrosoft software. The
software w notfy you f the nstaed copy of the software s
mpropery censed or ncudes unauthorzed changes. In addton,
you may receve remnders to obtan a propery censed copy of the
software. You may not be abe to obtan certan updates or upgrades
from Mcrosoft f your copy of the software s found to be mpropery
censed.
:. Internet.-aed Feat$reF Pri&a!(
Some software features use Internet protocos, whch send to Mcrosoft (or ts
suppers or servce provders) computer nformaton, such as your Internet
protoco address, the type of operatng system, browser, and name and
verson of the software you are usng, and the anguage code of the computer
where you nstaed the software. Mcrosoft uses ths nformaton to make the
Internet-based features avaabe to you, n accordance wth the Wndows 8.1
Prvacy Statement at go.mcrosoft.com/fwnk/?nkd=280262 and nformaton
that may be presented to you n the Wndows user nterface. Some Internet-
based features may be devered and updated at a ater date-f, for exampe,
you acqure an appcaton that rees on one of those servces, or to hep
make the software safer or more reabe.
a. Wndows Update. If you use the Wndows Update servce n the
software, updates or downoads to the Wndows Update servce w
be requred for proper functonng of the servce, from tme to tme,
and w be downoaded and nstaed wthout further notce to you.
b. Wndows dgta rghts management technoogy. Some content
owners use Wndows dgta rghts management technoogy (DRM) to
protect ther copyrghts and other nteectua property, ncudng by
dsabng the softwares abty to pay protected content f Wndows
DRM fas. You agree that Mcrosoft may ncude a revocaton st wth
the censes.
c. Wndows Meda Payer. When you use Wndows Meda Payer, t
checks wth Mcrosoft for compatbe onne musc servces n your
regon and new versons of the payer. You may ony use Wndows
Meda Payer as descrbed at go.mcrosoft.com/fwnk/?

d. Wndows Defender. If turned on, Wndows Defender w search your
computer for many types of macous software ("maware"),
ncudng vruses, worms, bots, rootkts, "spyware", "adware," and
other potentay unwanted software. If you choose the recommended
securty settngs when you rst start usng the software, such
maware and other potentay unwanted software rated "hgh" or
"severe" w automatcay be removed. Ths remova may resut n
other software on your computer ceasng to work or your breachng a
cense to use that software. It s possbe that software that s not
unwanted may be removed or dsabed. If you use Wndows Defender
and Wndows Update, Wndows Defender s reguary updated
through Wndows Update.
e. Macous software remova. The software may perodcay scan for
and remove maware from your computer, usng the macous
software remova too most recenty downoaded to your computer.
After the scan competes and at reguar ntervas, a report w be
sent to Mcrosoft wth specc nformaton about maware detected,
errors, and other nformaton about your computer. Ths nformaton
s used to hep protect your computer from macous software, as
we as to mprove the software and other Mcrosoft products. You
may dsabe the softwares reportng functonaty by foowng the

f. SmartScreen Fter. If enabed, the SmartScreen Fter w check the
addresses of webpages and downoads you attempt to vew aganst a
frequenty updated st of webpages and downoads that have been
reported to Mcrosoft as unsafe or suspcous. SmartScreen w aso
check downoaded programs that you attempt to run aganst a st of
commony downoaded or run programs to hep you make more
nformed trust decsons. More nformaton can be found by vstng

nkd=280122. By enabng SmartScreen n ether Wndows or
Internet Exporer, you consent to ths feature, and you agree to use
the SmartScreen Fter ony n con|uncton wth Wndows or Internet
Exporer. You may not, ether manuay or by enabng or authorzng
any software or servce, copy, dspay, dstrbute, coect, or store any
data provded by the SmartScreen Fter.
g. IPv6 Network Address Transaton (NAT) Traversa servce (Teredo).
Each tme you start your censed computer, Teredo w attempt to
ocate a pubc Internet Protoco verson 6 (IPv6) servce on the
Internet. Ths occurs automatcay when your censed computer s
connected to a pubc or prvate network, but does not occur on
managed networks such as enterprse domans. If you use a program
that requres Teredo to use IPv6 connectvty, or f you congure your
rewa to aways enabe IPv6 connectvty, then Teredo w
perodcay contact the Mcrosoft Teredo servce over the Internet.
The ony nformaton sent to Mcrosoft s standard computer
nformaton and the name of the servce requested (for exampe
teredo.pv6.mcrosoft.com). The nformaton sent from your computer
by Teredo s used to determne f your computer s connected to the
Internet and f t can ocate a pubc IPv6 servce. Once the servce s
ocated, nformaton s sent to mantan a connecton wth the IPv6
servce.
h. Pug and Pay and Pug and Pay Extensons. Your computer may not
have the drvers needed to communcate wth hardware that you
connect to your computer. If so, the update feature of the software
can obtan and nsta the correct drver on your computer. An
admnstrator can dsabe ths update feature.
. Dgta certcates. The software uses dgta certcates to conrm
the dentty of Internet users sendng X.509 standard encrypted
nformaton, to dgtay sgn es and macros, and to verfy the
ntegrty and orgn of e contents. The software may retreve and
update certcates, certcate revocaton sts, and the st of trusted
certcaton authortes, over the Internet.
|. Network awareness. Ths feature determnes whether a system s
connected to a network by ether passve montorng of network
tramc or actve DNS or HTTP queres. The query transfers ony
standard TCP/IP or DNS nformaton for routng purposes. You can
swtch oh the actve query feature through a regstry settng.
k. Acceerators. When you cck on or move your mouse over an
Acceerator n Internet Exporer, any of the foowng may be sent to
the appcabe servce provder (whch may not be Mcrosoft): the tte
and fu web address or URL of the current webpage, standard
computer nformaton, and any content you have seected. For more

. Search provder update. The software w downoad an update to the
data on your computer about search provders. Ths update upgrades
your provders wth the atest features, such as new cons or search
suggestons. Ths s a one-tme update, but the software w try to

Wndows apps or any prenstaed apps n your Start may use
Wndows Notcaton Servce. You agree that we may send you

Wndows apps (such as Ma, Caendar, and Peope) are apps that are
deveoped by Mcrosoft, ncuded wth Wndows, and censed to you under
ths agreement. You can access each Wndows app from ts correspondng te
n Start. Some of the Wndows apps provde an access pont to onne
servces, and the use of those servces s sometmes governed by separate
terms and prvacy poces. You can vew these terms and poces by ookng
at the apps settngs. Uness other terms are dspayed to you or presented n
the apps settngs, you agree the servces that you access from the Wndows
apps are governed by the Mcrosoft Servces Agreement at

Xbox servces, the xbox.com/ega/vetou. We contnuousy work to mprove
the servces and we may change the servces at any tme. The servces may

If you acqured the software on a dsc or other physca meda, your proof of
cense s the genune Mcrosoft certcate of authentcty abe wth the
accompanyng genune product key, and your proof of purchase. If you
acqured and downoaded the software onne, your proof of cense s the
genune Mcrosoft product key for the software that you receved wth your
purchase, and your proof of purchase from an authorzed eectronc supper
of genune Mcrosoft software. If you acqured and downoaded the software
va the Wndows Store, your proof of purchase s the proof of purchase for the
Wndows 8 Pro software that you updated from. Proof of purchase may be
sub|ect to vercaton by your merchants records.

You may ony obtan updates or upgrades for the software from Mcrosoft or
authorzed sources. Certan upgrades, support, and other servces may be
ohered ony to users of genune Mcrosoft software. For more nformaton

8. Limited Ri#ht 5erion
Some versons of the software, ke Not for Resae and Academc Edton
software, are dstrbuted for mted purposes. You may not se software
marked as "NFR" or "Not for Resae", and you must be a Ouaed
Educatona User to use software marked as "Academc Edton" or "AE." If you
