As regards to your email sent to me about the confirmation of the interview, I would like to highlight my suggestions. We will not be able to grant the interview and the reasons why are as follows; First and foremost, under the OFCOM SECTION 8 PRIVACY FROM THE BROADCAST CODES, SECTION 8.1 it states that any infringement of privacy in programmes, or in connection with obtaining material included in programmes must be warranted. This means that, we cannot film or grant the interview if it is not warranted. Secondly under section 8.2 it states that, the information which discloses the location of a persons home or family should not be revealed. And this clearly states that when we knock on his door with the camera rolling, we are contradicting to the rule. Meaning, we clearly cannot grant the interview. Also, any infringement of privacy in the making of a programme should be with the persons and/or organisations consent or be otherwise warranted as stated under section 8.5. Since there is no warrant for this particular broadcast, we cannot go on to grant the interview since the person isnt aware we will be knocking on his door for the interview. We might lose our right to broadcast an interview in future if we go on to breach this section of broadcasting act. However, consent must be obtained from the interviewee if you want to go ahead and broadcast the interview since section 8.6 states that if the broadcast of a programme will infringe the privacy of a person or organisation, consent must be obtained before the relevant material is broadcast. Last but not least, under section 8.17 it states that people under distress should not be put under pressure to take part in a programme or provide interviews unless warranted. And since we are going to start the interview in the morning, the person is likely to be under stress since he might have just woken up from bed. Hence I do not agree to grant this interview since it breaches few codes. Thank you. Yours Faithfully KOJO OWUSU OSEI
