SACS ’09

Organizing Progressive Events: Event Statements

Original SACS Event Statement:

SACS ’09 will draw 5-60 student leaders from Oregon schools to learn about
civic engagement. Students will be able to take what they learn back to their
campuses in order to increase the number of students who are actively engaged
in service in Oregon.

New SACS Event Statements Developed In Workshop:

1. On November 14 and 15, at the Aldersgate Conference Center, Oregon

university students will come together to learn about social change through
service workshops. Event staff will be on site to help support and empower
students to create change in their communities. The overall goal is to provide
networking for university students so that student leaders can take action at
individual campuses and branch out into communities outside their own.

2. SACS (Students Actively Changing Society)

Engages college student leaders actively advocating school and community

service projects through a conference of applicable skill developing/tool
sharpening workshops. After a day and a half, students will be able to
comprehensively understand and communicate the message of service learning
to others.
