-uessfully refilling ink artridges may take some pratie, !ut the proess gets easier eah
time& It is e3tremely important that you read these refill guidelines and the instrutions for your
artridge arefully to ensure desired results and a4oid mishaps&
Refill artridges in an area that is %ell#suited for the %ork&
Ink an spill; plae a large sheet of aluminum foil and<or a thik pile of
ne%spaper on your %ork surfae&
=eep distrations to a minimum&
>ear an apron or older lothes in ase of a spill, as %ell as plasti glo4es
to protet your hands from ink stains&
Clean up immediately %ith soap and %ater&
Ink on hands or arms %ill %ash off in a fe% days&
6o not refill o4er arpeted areas or near fine furniture&
-yringe si(e and style may 4ary& 0l%ays use a syringe %ith a loking tip
%here speified&
0l%ays hek to !e sure that the needle or tip is seurely attahed to the
syringe&
6o not fill syringe %ith ink until you are ready to refill your artridge&

pre4ent leaking or drying out&

8ld and<or dry artridges may not %ork, e4en after refilling, priming and
leaning&
Refill your artridges Bust !efore or immediately after they run out of ink&
Cartridges should not !e stored outside of your printer for more than an
hour unless reCuired as part of the refill proess&
Ink in the ink supply outlets or print heads %ill dry out in artridges that
are stored improperly, or allo%ed to remain empty for long periods of
time, and refilling suh artridges may not !e suessful&
Color printers reCuire speial ink olors to produe high#Cuality prints&
-tandard olor printers reCuire olor !lends kno%n as yan @!lue<greenA,
magenta @red<purpleA, and yello%&
Many inkBet printers an use DphotoE artridges, %hih reCuire t%o
additional olorsF Dphoto yanE or light yan and Dphoto magentaE or
light magenta& /rinters that reCuire these additional photo artridges are
alled Dsi3#olorE printers&
/hoto yan and photo magenta inks are only for si3#olor printers& *hey
are not intended for use in standard four#olor printers, e4en %hen
printing photos& If photo yan and<or photo magenta are used in a
standard four#olor printer, the olor !alane %ill !e inorret and the

*o 4erify the olor of ink ontained in eah ham!er of the artridge,
insert a %ooden toothpik into eah refill hole, %ithdra% it, and then
hek the olor of the toothpik&
84erfilled artridges may leak and ause olor ontamination&
84erfilled artridges %ill not print& ?se are to a4oid o4erfillingG
?se only enough ink to fill the artridge&
If you do o4erfill your artridge, refer to the instrutions for your
artridge and use a syringe to e3trat e3ess ink&

tape @or plugA o4ering the fill hole&
3& If this is the first time refilling the artridge, you %ill find a stainless
steel !all !earing in the fill hole as sho%n in the diagram& /ush the !all
!earing into the artridge using the tip of an e"pty syringe @%ithout
the needleA&
7e 4ery gentle in the follo%ing steps %hen inserting the needle into the
artridge& If the ink !ag is damaged, the artridge an no longer !e
used&
4& Fill the syringe %ith ink and inBet into the fill hole& Repeat until
!u!!les appear at the fill hole&
5& In order to seal the fill hole, you must firmly sCuee(e the artridge
sides and put a large plug into the hole& @-Cuee(ing the artridge
%hile the plug is inserted reates !ak pressure that helps stop the ink
from leaking out %hen refilling is ompleted&A
"& -ome ink may drip from the print head& /lae the artridge in a sink or
pan for 9#+ minutes %ith the print head do%n& Gently %ipe the print
head %ith a paper to%el& .old the artridge up so the print head is
do%n, and look at the print head& If you see any liCuid ink, the
artridge is not properly pressuri(ed and is leaking& Repeat the
