Summary
Theory of traditional plots and characters constitutes an important branch of
comparative literature. There is an urgent need for a correct terminology in this
sphere. Traditional plots and characters can be classified on the bans of
geneological principle into mythological, folk, historical and literary. They reflect
general as well as recurrent socio-historical and psychological situation. Most
traditional plots and characters have real analogues and protagonists. Certain
traditional structures are plot dominated others are character dominated. In the
process of historico-literary functioning all traditional plots and characters
undergo reinterpretation, acquiring, semantico-evaluative variants so that
idealization at times gives way do negative assessment and presentation. >

Summary
The love story of Tristan and Isolde based on an old Celtic legend is one or
the most popular traditional plots of the world literature. Its classical
embodiment has been found in the genre of medieval knight novel (Beroul,
Thomas, Gottfried von Straburg). In the German drama the Nuremberg
meistersinger Hans Sachs (1553) was first who addressed the legend about
Tristan knd Isolde and who continued the epic line of its development.
R.Wagner has given it a real dramatic form in his famous opera (1857). The
further dramatic versions of the XIXth century (F.Roeber, LSchneegans,
J.Weilen, A.Gehrke, K.Robert, M.Rtzel, A.Geiger) tried to enlarge the range of
the interpretations, but with no particular success. Only in the XXth century in
the German drama original and artistically perfect versions about Tristan and
isolde have appeared and realized marginal (not magistral) potentions of the
legend, such as E.Hardt*s drama Tantris der Narr (1907) based on subtle
psychologism and G.Kaiser's expressionistic tragedy Knig Hahnrei (1913).

Summary
. The present problem has been actualized in the context of Ukrainian spiritual
revival. But there have been no generalizing workes so far. Further study
demands the complex approach and the application of various data
(philosophical, psychological, theosophical etc.). It is necessary to deepen the
pure philological aspect: namely to establish the basic biblical-receptive types
and their phases in the national literary process; to correlate the national and
the biblical maintenance and form etc. The article is based on the wide
spectrum of Ukrainian Poetry from its roots to our time with the account of the
(European analogues.

Ukrainian literature. The first and second periods coincide with the ancient
literature, namely that of Kyiv Rus and the period from the second half of the
XVI up to XVIII century. The third relates to new Ukrainian literature of the XIX
century. Finally, the fourth belongs to the end of the XIX century the
beginning of the XX century. The characterization of each of these periods is
closely connected with the specification of the role of parable in the formation
of the aesthetic system in Ukrainian literature.

Summary
The analysis of the prose of the 1900-1930 gives the right to the author of the
given article to cbnclude that the character of Jesus in the analysed works has
not been shown to capacity. It's noted by richness of signs nature.
In Bulgakovs character of Jeshwa the sign is organically connected with the
subject matter. We consider here the lyrical nature of Jeshwas character, his
attitude towards truthful and tragedical aspects of life.

Summary
The article analyses the dependence of the the material functioning upon the
writer's individual creative conception.
Analysing the artistic integrity of the novel, its form and content, philosophic
and aesthetic conception, space and time relations, we trace the transformation
of the literary and canonical subject models and characters.
The novel is regarded as a negative of a negative-novel, the structure oi

is analyzed in the article. The action is focused on the research of the

Summary
H .D .s Helen in Egypt is a long poem structured as an interpretative quest for
meaning. Made up of the overlays of variant myths generated around the figure
of Helen of Troy, H.D.s poem examines the correlation between tradition and
its re-interpretation in the process of reproduction of literary discourse. It is
argued that Helen in Egypt is a self-reflexive text characterized by several layers
of meta-commentary. Its meta-aspect is revealed both on the thematic level
and on the structural level by means of various palimpsestic and polyglossic
tecniques. The application of these techniques produces the polyphonic text
which explores and reflects upon its status as an instant in the continuous
process of translation/interpretation of tradition.

interpretation of the historical personality (Jeanne d 'A rc in modern French
literary tradition)" is the functioning of tne historical personages which

genuineness and fiction in the presentation of historical personalities,
