NegotiationsWorkshopFundraiserForManilatownHeritageFoundation

SANFRANCISCOTheManilatownHeritageFoundation(MHF)issponsoringafulldaynegotiations
workshopfundraiser,wheretheproceedswillhelpsupportMFHscommunityprograms.

TheworkshopwilltakeplaceonSaturday,August16
th
,from8:30AMto5:00PM,attheMHFs
ManilatownCenter,locatedatthehistoricInternationalHotel,868KearnySt.,SanFrancisco.

TheworkshopwillbetaughtbyTimothyDayonot,whoteachesnegotiationsatU.C.BerkeleysHaas
SchoolofBusinessandGoldmanSchoolofPublicPolicy.Dayonot,whostudiednegotiationswhilea
graduatestudentatHarvardUniversity,isvolunteeringhistimesothat100%oftheworkshopfeeswill
benefittheMHF.

IthoughtofferingtheworkshopwouldbeagreatwayofsupportingboththeMHFandthe
InternationalHotel,andteachingsomeusefulnegotiationskillstomembersofourcommunity,said
Dayonot,whoistheVicePresidentoftheBoardoftheInternationalHotel.

DayonotwasaformeraidetoGovernorJerryBrown(secondterm),andservedastheDirectorofthe
CaliforniaDepartmentofCommunityServices&DevelopmentforGovernorsGrayDavisandArnold
Schwarzenegger,thehighestrankingFilipinoAmericaninstategovernmentatthetime.

Theworkshopwillcoveravarietyoftopics,includinghowtonegotiatebetterpricesforgoodsand
services,resolvingconflicts,increasingbargainingpowerandhowtodefendagainstnegotiatingtricks
andploys.WefeelveryfortunatetohavesomeoneofDayonotsskillandexperiencetoprovidethe
workshopsaidCarolineCabading,VicePresidentoftheMHFBoardofDirectors.Cabadingexplained
thatthe$125workshopfeeissubstantiallylowerthancomparablenegotiationsworkshopsandwas
pricedtomakeitaccessibletomorepeople.Manyemployerswillprovidereimbursementforthecost
ofthistypeofworkshopandsomewillevenprovidecomptime,sincethetrainingtakesplaceona
Saturday,sheadded.

TheInternationalHotelisalowincomeseniorhousingdevelopmentnearS.F.sChinatownthatwasa
productofahistoric30yearstrugglebytheFilipinoAmericancommunityandotherstoblockthe
destructionandcommercialdevelopmentoftheoriginalInternationalHotel,whichwasthelast
remainingbuildinginanareaoncecalledManilatown,washometomanyelderlyFilipinoAmericans.
Theyandothertenantswereevictedin1977andthebuildingdemolishedin1981.Thenew
InternationalHotelwascompletedin2005andhas105apartmentsforlowincomeseniors.
