About NFSA -2013: An Act to provide food and nutritional security in human life cycle approach, by ensuring access to adequate quantity of quality food at affordable prices to people to live a life with dignity. The National Food Security Act (NFSA) was enacted on Sept.12,2013. Also called as RTF(Right to Food)
Provisions under NFSA-2013
Aim to cover two-third of the total population.(means rural 75% & urban 50%) Entitlement of 5kg of food grains per person per month:- -rice at Rs.3 per kg -wheat at Rs.2 per kg -coarse grain at Re.1 per kg AAY household will receive additional 10 Kgs of food grains Nutritional support to pregnant women and lactating mothers Nutritional support to children. Setting up of Grievance Redressal Mechanism(dist. & state level) Food security allowance(in case of non-supply)
NEED FOR FOOD SECURITY
According to IFPRI report on hunger ,India ranks at 67 out of 81 countries. About 810 million of people are poor. Tool to fight against malnutrition & food insecurity. NFSA- a shift from welfare approach to right based approach. PDS has large exclusion and inclusion errors.
