Music of Nigeria Since 1960

The music of Nigeria includes many kind of folk and popular music some of
which are known world wide. styles of folk music are related to the multitudes
of ethnic groups in the country each their own techiques instruments and
songs. Traditional music from nigeria and throughout !frica is almost always
"unctional# in other words it is performed to mark ritual such as wedding or
funeral and not for pure entertainment or artistic en$oyment.
work songs are a common type of traditional Nigerian music. they help to
keep the rhytm of workers in %eld ri&er canoes and other %eld. women use
comple' rhyth in house keeping task.
