Location
The Philippines is an archipelago in southeastern
Asia, located between the South China Sea
and the Pacific Ocean. With an area of about
300,000 square kilometers (115,800 square miles),
The Philippines is divided into
seventy-three provinces.

Climate
The Philippines has a tropical maritime climate with two seasons. From
November through April, the northeast monsoon brings rain, and from
May through October, the southwest monsoon brings cool, dry
weather. The average temperature is 27C (80F) with a range
between 23C and 32C (73F and 90F). Humidity averages 77
percent.



Administrative Divisions
The Philippines has four main classes of elected administrative divisions,
often lumped together as local government units (LGUs). They are,
from the highest to the lowest division:

1. Autonomous regions
2. Provinces (lalawigan, probinsiya) and independent cities (lungsod,
siyudad/ciudad, dakbayan, lakanbalen)
3. Municipalities (bayan, balen, bungto, banwa) and component
cities (lungsod, siyudad/ciudad, dakbayan, lakanbalen)
4. Barangays (also known as barrio)
