The Determination of Laylat al-Qadr (Night of destiny)

An astronomical approach
This paper focuses on the determination of the time of Laylat al-Qadr by an astronomical
approach , Laylat al-Qadr is an one of the things which aroused curiosity lot to find a way to set
the timing; due to its great importance.
the prayer times are the five prayers each day and night, so they were determined by the
movement of the sun only (one object) to be very accessible for all people all over the world ,
while we find that the lunar month is determined by the birth of new Crescent, the calculations
are based on the relationship between the movement of the sun and the moon.
In Islamic Religion there is a great importance for two lunar months throughout year Ramadan
and Dhul-Hijjah , so we use two heavenly objects in the calculations; the sun and the moon, but
Laylat al-Qadr is once every year so we suggest to use the sun , the moon and the third brightest
celestial body is planet Venus , Venus is the brightest object in the sky after the sun and the moon
, in next few pages we will try to find a way to set the time of Laylat al-Qadr by the relationship
between the sun and the moon and the planet Venus.
