Poetry By Ruchi Goel

And she wept that night

That night lasted for eternity
For so long she sobbed that night
And cried herself to sleep
But sleep was inexorable
Refused to come and succor
As unrelenting was that night
As she always witnessed in her visions
Her worst fears came true
That moment, alas! came
The jiffy that she dreaded the most
Finally, before her, befell
She resigned herself
Tried hard to walk away
From the stage of life
She decided to quit
As the darkest hours were ticking past
She had decided to leave it all, and part
But the arrival of dawn brought hope and trust
That her patience would still yet last
And she wept that morning again
Glad, those tears were now easing the pain
Yet the days turned out the same
Each no better than the last
She began to dread the fall of night
To be haunted by her past
Her torment finally peaked
And now she was numb to pain
Taking all in her stride
Every night she died
Each morning she was born again
Heedless to that stinging pain
She was waiting for that generous light
To come and light her tormented life
That light but will never shine
To show her way and seek respite
She took charge of her own miseries
Taught herself to be a stoical being
Yet her life didn't cease to strike
And there she wept again - that dreadful night
