What is lactate?
Lactate is a molecule that
is produced during
glycolysis.
Glycolysis is a process
that provides energy for
the body aerobically
(without oxygen) during
exercise.
The lactate myth
When lactate levels build up, it causes the PH of the muscles to
become slightly acidic and cause the burn during exercise.
As a result, many people believe that lactate is bad for you, but it
actually is beneficial.
The benefit
The stomach, liver, and kidneys take lactate
thats flowing in the body and convert into
ENERGY
This means that even though a person is tired
and muscles are burning, lactate becomes a
secondary source of energy.
Athletes

Since the glycolysis energy
system and lactate primarily
are used for short exercises
with high intensity, lactate is
most beneficial to sprinters
and power athletes.
Many coaches have used the
science and trained their
athletes based off of the
lactate threshold.
Research
Kinesiologists measure lactate
levels in the blood during and
after exercise.
This helps them to determine
how often athletes use aerobic
and anaerobic energy systems.
As mentioned earlier, this
research has helped to train
athletes.
Conclusion
Although lactate causes muscles to burn, it is a
source of energy.
Athletes who do short activities with high
intensities benefit most.
Research in kinesiology has led to training
regimens that help athletes to overcome the
lactate burn.
