Theoretical base for practice is important to nursing because the nursing profession

developed off of nursing theories by Florence Nightingale and various other nursing theorists.
This section shows how I have gained knowledge on theories and has helped me develop a
foundation for nursing practice that I can grow from as a nurse.
The first document in this section is a copy of a certificate I received for attending a
nursing research event. It is important that once I become a registered nurse, that I continue my
education and maintain my nursing knowledge through educational opportunities. The second
document listed is a voice-over power point I created on the Kolcaba nursing theory. This project
allowed me to learn more about a nursing theory I had never heard of before while in nursing
school. It gave me the opportunity to expand my knowledge and learn how this theory relates to
nursing practice. The last document is a paper I wrote critiquing articles. This paper revolves
around the Theory of Planned Behavior and I assessed whether the articles were of good quality
and what level of research was used in each article. This was important to learn so that I had a
better understand of what constitutes as quality, evidenced based research. As a future nurse, I
will need to understand the importance of this so that when I read research articles, I can
determine if this evidence would be of high quality to incorporate into practice.
