Maria: Oh my goodness, you will never guess what happened to me

yesterday!
Tom: What happened?
Maria: Well, I was sleeping when my husband left for work. When I
woke up, someone was knocking on the door. It was my mother.
While we were talking, the baby started crying.
Tom: What did you do then?
Maria: I was checking on the baby when the phone rang. When I was
going to the phone, I smelt smoke. My mother was smoking in
the living room. The fire started while I was answering the
phone.
Tom: Oh no!
Maria: I called my mother and she immediately went to rescue the
baby. While she was rescuing the baby, I called the fire
department. They came really quickly and put out the fire.
