What is Best Buddies?

This is
a question I get a lot when I
am repping my Best Buddies
swag! Well let me tell you . . .

Best Buddies is an organization
started by Anthony Kennedy
Shriver in 1989. AKS wanted
people with intellectual and
developmental disabilities
(IDD) to have the same
opportunities for one-to-one
friendships, employment, and
leadership development as any
other person. You can find
Best Buddies in middle schools,
high schools, and colleges
world wide.

Over the last twenty-five years
Best Buddies has helped
change the live of so many
people! Over 800,000 people
with IDD have been positively
affected by this amazing
organization.

The most important thing to
the Best Buddies organization,
and those involved, is to create
meaningful and long lasting one
-to-one friendships. Peer
Buddies and Buddies are
matched at the beginning of
the school year. Though out
the pairs time in their respect-
ed schools they hang out and
do what any other pair of
friends would do. At
least once a month the
whole chapter comes
together to hang out.

But it does not stop
there. Best Buddies
provides job training so
that those with IDD gain
the skill sets needed to
join the work force.

Friendship is an essential
part of life that no one
should be denied and
Best Buddies helps to
make sure that everyone
has that chance.
The goal of Best Buddies is to
eventually go out of business.
One day Best Buddies hopes
that inclusion and friendship is
something they will no longer
have to foster. That it will be
natural, and it should be.
B-E-S-T Buddies . . . What?
Should I Join?
Yes! Absolutely yes! Best
Buddies is an organization that
will change your life. It is also
probably the easiest club you
will join. All you have to do is
be a friend.

What do you do with your
friends? Go to the movies?
Go out to eat, cook food? Go
on adventures? Text,
Facebook, Snapcat? Do it with
your buddy.

Best Buddies is a commitment.
You cannot say you want a
buddy, or to be a buddy, and
then not show up. How would
you feel if one of your friends
stopped talking to you? Pretty
bad right? Join Best Buddies
and make a new friend. Start a
relationship that will last a
lifetime.

July 25-28th Kellie, Alphonso, and Shannon went to Indiana to take
part in the 25th leadership conference. At LC they got to meet
other ofcers and ambassadors from chapters around the world,
and able to exchange ideas. Read more about their tme there at
