Introduction
Description
Without this feature, circuit switched (CS) calls are paged by location area (LA). The MSC sends a paging command with
a location area code (LAC) to the BSC. The BSC then sends paging messages to all cells in the LA corresponding to the
LAC.
As most MSs perform services in a limited area, such paging wastes paging channels (PCHs) over the Um
interface.
With this feature, the BSC records the cell where an MS is located when the MS interworks with the MSC.
The BSC sends paging messages for the MS only to the cell and its neighboring cells if required. This feature decreases
the PCH load, thereby saving PCHs over the Um interface.

With this feature, the BSC performs precise paging only by the LAC or location area identity (LAI) sent by the MSC

Activation Procedure .
This feature is enabled only when all of the following parameters are enabled :
BSC Layered Paging Switch is set to ON(on).
Saving User Paging Message Timer is set to a value greater than 0.
BSC Repaging Timer is set to a value within the range of [2,12].
CS Paging Policy is set to FIRSTPRECISEPAGING(First Precise Paging) or ALWAYSPRECISEPAGING(Always Precise Paging).
When configuring this feature, you are advised to set BSC Repaging Timer to a value less than the repaging sending time configured
on the MSC side.
This feature does not take effect when either of the following conditions is met:
BSC Layered Paging Switch is set to OFF(off).
BSC Layered Paging Switch is set to ON(on) and Saving User Paging Message Timer is set to 0.
BSC Layered Paging Switch is set to ON(on), Saving User Paging Message Timer is set to a value greater than 0, and CS Paging
Policy is set to ALWAYSNORMALPAGING(Always Normal Paging).

Prior to any procedure the MSC must be enabled with the Common ID function to support this feature.

This feature significantly increases the paging success rate in
areas where paging messages cannot be properly sent to MSs
because of excessive invalid paging messages sent over the Um
interface.

Storing and querying MS information on the BSC consume CPU
resources, causing an increase of about 1- 3% in the CPU load.
