SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Tuesday 10
th
February
Nth Sydney Pool

Dear Parents & Boys,

Please read through the following points in preparation for the swimming carnival that your son is participating in. Boys wil l need
to pay special attention to all assemblies leading up to the day so that all can have a fun and enjoyable day. War cry practice in
colour houses will take place during the coming days so feel free for boys to invent new war cries for their respective houses
which they can bring along on the day. Please note that with this venue there are restrictions imposed upon us by Nth Sydney
Council which are outlined later in this note.

BEFORE THE CARNIVAL
Have your bag packed the night before with all items that you need for the day. This includes, goggles, towel, hat,
recess, water, lunch as well as items to support your colour house all of which need to have your sons name on these.
Colour house swimming caps are to be worn in all races. Or you may choose to purchase your own from sport
shops or use shared school caps.

School sport house spirit, there will be incentive prizes given out to those boys who demonstrate colour house spirit, e.g
only hair spray that is your house colour is permitted as well as house zinc. Some boys have already made some
posters in preparation for cheering on their house.

Ensure you are aware of how you are getting home from the carnival. Boys may be picked up from the venue or from
school at the completion of the carnival. There will be sufficient time for boys to catch their normal public transport home
if that is your normal transport arrangement.

ENTRANT NUMBER- Every boy prior to the carnival will be allocated an entrant number. On the morning of the carnival
this entrant number will need to be recorded on his arm (see photo). This number is allocated by the school. It may be a
one, two or three digit number.

CARNIVAL DAY
On Tuesday 10
th
Feb boys can be dropped at the venue or may come to school as normal before walking down to the
pool at 8.30am in their classes. Boys are asked to wear their PE uniform with their swimmers underneath and all items
they need for the day in their sports bag.

Once at the complex boys are asked to make their way to the grandstand. They will then have their competitor number
written on their hand which they will use all day for recording when they enter races. Parents seating is located in the
same grandstand but are asked to sit at the rear of the grandstand (boys are not permitted to sit with their parents
except during lunch time).

An event order listing has been uploaded onto MANRESA and will be on display at the venue. Boys will have the
opportunity to enter events on the day. No pre selection like previous years is required.

At the conclusion of the carnival all remaining boys not collected by parents will be walked back to school with staff.
NOTE UPLOADED THURSDAY 26/1/15

RACES
Please read through this information so that everyone is aware of how the day is being run.

1. An announcement will be made, This is the first call for any boy who is turning___________ this year or who
already has turned ______who would like to swim in the 50m_________. Please head directly to the marshalling
area to have your competitor number (allocated by the school) recorded.

2. Any boy who wishes to enter makes their way to marshalling to have their competitor number recorded and sits in
the allocated lane and waits for his race. Here he will be loaned a swimming cap if he did not already purchase
one.

3. When everyone is in attendance all boys are walked over to the starting blocks in their lane order, it is vital that
boys not move out of this order as their names will not be recorded when they finish.

4. It is the boys responsibility to make sure he goes to marshalling area for the events he wants to swim in.

5. At the conclusion of your race stay in the pool until you are told to get out. The first four swimmers will receive a
token which they will exchange for a ribbon once they have left the pool. Races will be timed electronically. Please
remember that each heat is treated like a final and just because your son may come first in his race does not mean
he may make a school team. Teams are based on overall times from all age groups in each event.

6. When directed boys leave their lane, exit the pool, return their swimming cap to the baskets provided and return to
their house.

CONCLUSION
Time permitting we could possibly have finals for freestyle for each age group but regardless we will have our
presentation for age champions, runner up and winning colour house. No boy is permitted to leave the carnival
before the final event (relays for each age group) as well as the presentation.

When the carnival has concluded and a clean up has occurred boys may leave with their parents if they are in
attendance. All remaining boys will be walked back to school to await pick up.

Looking forward to an excellent day of Swimming and sportsmanship.
Yours Sincerely,

Mr Trevor Dunne
