9:2 Term Project Part 5 hypothesis testing
1. Select and report a level of significance (10%, 5%, 1%).

= 5% or .05

2. For your group simple random sample from part 2 (categorical variable), complete a
hypothesis test for the population proportion, selecting one of the levels of your variable and
using your chosen level of significance.
1) p = .46
2) p .46
3) : p=.46
: p.46
4) =.05
5) Normal Distribution
6) Test statistic
a. p hat=35/67=.5224
b. q=.54
c. n=67
d. z=.5224-.46/sq root[(.46)(.54)/67]=1.02
z=-1.02,1.02
p-value=2x(z=-1.02)=2x.1539=.3078
7) Because the P-value of 0.3078 is greater than the significance level of
=.05, we fail to reject the null hypothesis.
8) Because we fail to reject : p=.46, we fail to reject the claim that
46% of participants are women. We conclude that there is not sufficient
sample evidence to warrant rejection of the claim that 46% of
participants in the study are women.
3. Four your group simple random sample from part 3 (quantitative variable), complete a
hypothesis test for the population mean, using your chosen level of significance.
1) 65.1
2) 65.1
3) : 65.1
: 65.1
4) =.05
5) T distribution
6) Test statistic
a. n=35
b. sample mean=64
c. s=10.596733
d. t=64-65.1/[10.596733/sq root(35)]=-0.614
e. p-value=.5432; critical region=-2.032,2.032
7) Because the test statistic t=-.614 does not fall in the critical region
bounded by the critical values of t=-2.032,2.032 so we fail to reject the
null hypothesis.
8) Fail to reject : 65.1, there is insufficient evidence to prove to
warrant rejection of the claim that the population of weight in kilograms
in September has a mean equal to 65.1 kilograms.
4. In detail, discuss how your samples meet (or fail to meet) the conditions for performing these
tests.
Categorical variable
1. The sample observation is a simple random sample
2. Binomial distribution is satisfied
3. np> or = 5 and nq> or = 5 is satisfied.
Sample meets conditions for performing this test
Qualitative variable
1. The sample is a simple random sample.
2. n > 30
Sample meets conditions for performing this test.
