HBEF4106-1: SCHOOL-BASED RESEARCH PART 1 ( BPG)


COURSE ASSIGNMENT (40%)



A. INTRODUCTION

The objective of the course HBEF4106: School-Based Research is to give you some
experience in teaching and interacting with secondary schoolchildren and to report on the
outcome of your experience. For this purpose, you need to write a PROPOSAL that focuses
on studying the effects of teaching a topic or skill on learner achievement, motivation, or
interest. This assignment will assist you in writing the PROPOSAL so that you can
systematically investigate how secondary schoolchildren learn or examine better ways of
teaching them a particular subject or skill.


B. THE PROPOSAL

1. To complete this assignment, you need to refer to relevant parts of the module as well as
read a number of articles from journals and chapters from relevant books. Discussions in
myLMS or during the tutorial will also be helpful as you think of the various steps
involved in doing your research. For more details on the contents of the proposal, refer to
Topic 2 of your module.

2. Your RESEARCH PROPOSAL is to be presented in THREE (3) parts

Chapter 1
Introduction: Objective of the study, research questions, rationale, etc.

Chapter 2
Review of Related Literature

Chapter 3
Research Methodology: Detailed description of students, teaching-learning context,
teaching plan, (strategies, skills or techniques, as required), instruments, questionnaires,
expected outcomes, limitations of the study, etc.

3. Include REFERENCES and APPENDICES (if needed) at the end of your paper.

4. All three chapters of the proposal are to be completed and submitted together in the form of
a bound hard copy by Tutorial Four (T4). The chapters, references and appendices should
be clearly labeled, printed on plain white A4 size paper, double-spaced, and with at least 1
inch margin on the top, bottom, left and right. The maximum number of pages for the
proposal should be 20, inclusive of appendices and references.


C. THE SUMMARY

Include a SUMMARY of your proposal (maximum 6 pages) for submission to EPRD,
Ministry of Education, Malaysia.
