I. By faith Abraham left Ur of the Chaldees (Hebrews 11:8)
A. He obeyed His leaving was in response to what God told him (Gen 12:1-4).
God promised Abraham land, a nation, blessing and the Messiah (Gen 22:18 with Gal
3:16).
B. He didn't know where he was going.
Dependence for daily direction from God likely developed into a pattern for life.
C. He was promised an unseen land as an inheritance.
An inheritance: Abraham never gained recognized ownership of it. It was a land
that would come to his descendants.

II. By faith Abraham dwelt in Canaan (Hebrews 11:9)
A. He dwelt in the land; it was his earthly home (Gen 12:5-8).
B. He lived as a foreigner (Gen 13:12-13; 15:13-16).
The reason: he didnt want to contaminate himself or his family in the sins of those
nations (Lev 18:24-30).
C. He lived in tents (temporary).

III. By faith Abraham wait for the city (Hebrews 11:10)
A. It was the wait of a lifetime. "wait" means to live in the expectation of receiving
something.
"The testing of your faith produces patience (Jam 1:3).
B. He longed for the city to be at home with God.
Early revelation about life beyond the grave: Job 19:25-27.

IV. By faith Abraham was accepted by God
A. Gen 15:6 the righteousness that makes us acceptable to God comes from God.
B. Rom 4:5 we can never earn our salvation or deserve it.
