Bread comes first. Bread means wheat. T he people of
the Allies, eating war bread darker and heavier than any
we are asked to adopt, must have enough to make the
raised 'oaf. T hey are eating corn and barley and rye;
that they may have Bread we must send them 75,000,000
bushels of wheat.
T o create that supply, we must cut down our own use
of wheat by one-third. T o sustain them against famine,
to protect the armies from disaster, loyal Americans are
eating V ictory Bread.

Hnie durchbrochen und aui deulscnem Boden Fuss geiasst. Alsdann in vollem
Schwung den Rhein iiberquert, mil Ausdauer die Bruckenkopie von Speyer
und Germersheim erweitert. mr habt den Widerstand des Feindes, der sicii
verzweiiell an seinen Boden klammert, zerschlagen und in einem einzigen
Z uge die Hauplsiadle K arlsruhe und Stuttgart, sowie Baden und WUrttemberg
erobert. Schiiessiich bis zur Donau vorstossend und sie Uberquerend, war es
Euer Wilie, den Sieg der Grossen Armee erneuernd, unsere Fahnen Uber Dim
wehen zu iassen.
K ampier der l. iranzosischen Armee, getreu dem Auiruf unseres Cheis,
General de Gaulle, habt Dir die Tradition der Grosse Frankreichs, die der
Soldaten von Turenne, der Freiwiiligen der Revolution und der napoleo-
