Quanti-Disc

Reading Guide
Quanti-Disc is faster to read and easier to use than traditional pour-plate methods. Simply pipette, incubate
and obtain a total viable count within seconds. Positive wells uoresce under UV light, which may vary in
intensity throughout the sample. It is normal to see a range of uorescent shades because heterotrophic
bacteria are comprised of many different bacteria species, which have different rates of enzymatic activity
in metabolizing the substrate-based formulation.

The following techniques will help you
interpret Quanti-Disc results correctly:
1. Read the Quanti-Disc sample with a viewing
cabinet or in a dark room to avoid ambient
light interference.
2. Read Quanti-Disc results with a 6-watt,
365-nm UV lamp.
3. Keep the UV lamp at least 5 inches (13 cm) from
the disc. If the UV lamp is too close, every well in
the Quanti-Disc may appear to be positive.
4. Count the number of uorescing wells. Any
uorescence visible within a well is considered
positive. Refer to the MPN table to convert positive
wells to MPN per mL.
5. Do not compare wells within the same sample.
Always use a negative control for a reference.
