Classroom Rules

Inappropriate behaviors will be categorized as MILD, MODERATE or SEVERE. Mild offenses (not
working, talking) will generally receive a warning and maybe loss of daily participation points. Repeated
mild offenses and moderate offenses (cheating, disruption, defiance, profanity) will receive a warning
and loss of daily participation points. Repeated moderate offenses may lead to parent contact or
referrals to the counselor/ assistant principal. Severe offenses (repeated mild offenses and all Ed. Code
violations) will result in loss of participation points and parent contact and may result in a referral to the
principal.
THE STUDENT WILL:
1. Be prepared to start class promptly after the bell.
A. PENCIL--you must bring your own pencil or pen. If you do not have a pencil or pen, I will loan
you one or let you go to the office and buy one, BUT you will lose 1 daily participation points.
B. TARDY--you have ONE MINUTE after the bell rings to be seated in class. After one minute you
are tardy and will lose at least 1 daily participation points. I will enforce the schools tardy
policy. Some periods (1,3,5,7) have tardy bells. Entering the class after the tardy bell rings will be
considered a tardy.
2. Do quality work for the full period.
A. DO YOUR OWN WORK--copying or cheating is not acceptable and will result in the loss of
daily participation points for both people. If I catch you cheating on a test you will not receive
your credit at the next grading period.
B. ASK IF YOU NEED HELP--an F grade on any assignment will result in loss of daily
participation points. It means that you either didnt try hard enough or didnt ask for enough
help.
C. WORK A FULL PERIOD--there are only three reasons to clean up your work:
*the teacher says you can clean up.
*The bell rings to end the period.
*you have completed all assignments on the board, including at least one extra credit
article. Students are expected to do extra credit upon completion of daily work.
3. Follow teachers instructions.
A. READ, LISTEN, AND FOLLOW DIRECTIONS. It is important to listen when the teacher is
reviewing information or providing directions.
B. DONT LEAVE THE ROOM WITHOUT PERMISSION. The restroom should be used during the
breaks. Leaving class to use the restroom or buy a pencil will result in loss of daily participation
points.
C. OBEY ALL SAFETY RULES, such as wearing goggles when necessary.
D. COME TO SCHOOL WEARING APPROPRIATE CLOTHES. Students wearing items that violate the
dress code will be referred to the office.
4. Demonstrate cooperative and positive behavior.
A. WORK COOPERATIVELY WITH TEACHER AND OTHER STUDENTS.
B. USE APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE.
C. MINIMIZE EXCESSIVE NOISE AND DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR. Talking quietly while working is
okay, but disturbing other students while they are working in is not acceptable.
D. CLEAN UP YOUR MESS, including putting your book and folder away properly.
E. DONT TAKE ANYTHING OUT THE DOOR THAT YOU DIDNT COME IN THE DOOR WITH.
F. USE EQUIPMENT PROPERLY AND ONLY WHEN NEEDED.
G. DONT MAKE ANY INAPPROPRIATE DRAWING, SYMBOLS, WRITING, OR TAGGING ON ANY
SCHOOL MATERIALS, including desk and folders. This includes profanity; gang writing,
references, and symbols; and all references to illegal substances
5. Maintain regular attendance.
Come to school every day! You can only earn daily participation points when you are at school.
Follow these rules and you will receive full daily participation points for your work. Disobeying these
rules may result in a 1/2 or no daily participation points, depending upon the nature of the problem.
Continuing to disobey the rules will result in individual counseling, calls home to parents, parent
conferences, and referrals to the office.

ANSWERS ON ALL WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS (notes, review sheets, tests) MUST BE IN COMPLETE
SENTENCES. FAILURE TO RESPOND IN COMPLETE SENTENCES WILL RESULT IN A LOSS OF ONE LETTER
GRADE FOR THAT ASSIGNMENT.
Almost every day you will complete an assignment worth a grade. Several daily assignments put
together over two to three weeks will make up a unit. At the end of each unit you will be given a TEST
or a PROJECT to complete. Each unit test/project will count as 50% of your total grade. YOU MUST PASS
THE UNIT TEST/PROJECT WITH A D- OR BETTER AND HAVE A PASSING OVERALL GRADE TO RECEIVE
YOUR CREDITS FOR THAT UNIT. If you fail the test/project, then the only way to receive your credit for
that unit is to make up the test/project on your own time (before or after school). You have TWO WEEKS
to make up your test/project. If you come in and make a genuine attempt to make up a test/project, I
will help you get through it. After the two-week period, if you have not successfully made up your
test/project, then your credits for that unit will be taken awayFOREVER, that is your INCOMPLETE will
revert to an F! I will contact your parents if you fail a test/project and do not make it up.
