My name is Miss Lambert, and Im looking forward to having your child in my 8

I believe that good teaching requires a partnership between a childs parents and teachers, so I would like to invite you to contact me any time to share any concerns with me. You can contact me at alambert@york.k12.sc.us . I have listed some useful information about our classroom below:
Keeping Connected I want you to feel connected to what your child is doing in his/ her science class this year. To this end, I have set up several resources that can be used to help you stay in the loop.
1. Remind 101: This tool allows you to subscribe to text alerts and reminders about important events such as tests and quizzes! Simply send a text to (803)305-4002 and put one of these codes into the text body: 1 st Block: @lambo 2 nd Block: @lamb 3 rd Block: @lambeam 4 th Block: @lambeth 7 th Block: @lambert
2. Classroom DOJO: This tool provides you weekly updates on your childs behavior and conduct in the classroom. I will send you an invitation through email in the first few weeks of school as long as provide me with your email address! http://www.classdojo.com/
3. Drop It To Me: This tool allows you to digitally submit assignments straight to my drop-box account! http://www.dropitto.me/msamylambert Password: 88YMS88
4. Kid-Blog: This tool allows your child to post questions and participate in discussions in class with his/her teacher as well as other students about class material. Visit: http://kidblog.org/home/ Click on the red Student box. Enter the code. PLEASE choose a username with your first and last name in it, so that I know who you are. If I am awarding credit for you doing a post, I need to know who posted it! Iluvpokemon5 as a username doesnt give me any idea who posted it! Also, choose a password that you can easily remember! Links are provided for quick access once you have signed up.
5. My Weebly Site: Includes updates about classroom events, resources to help your child study, and electronic copies of most handouts and assignments. A CRITICAL resource! Please utilize as much as possible and refer to this often! http://mslambertscienceclass.weebly.com/
What to Expect
Here are some basics to expect in my class:
1. Weekly Work: Students have a homework assignment every week. It is passed out on Monday and due on Friday. These are posted on my weebly AND handed out in class.
2. Composition Notebook: Your student must keep a composition notebook in science. He/she will need a 100 sheet (200 page) composition notebook for all of the labs and activities we will do. These will be checked regularly for a grade.
3. Bell Work: Students have an opening activity EVERY day during the first 5-10 minutes of class. These will be checked regularly for a grade.
4. Absent Work: I keep an absent area in my classroom, which includes copies of missed work and a calendar with the days assignments written on it so students always know what they missed. Volunteers We always welcome parent volunteers in our classroom. If you have an applicable talent or knowledge of science that you would like to share I would love to have you in my classroom as a guest speaker! There is always so much to do and any help with labs, donation of supplies and one on one or small group work with struggling students is always appreciated. Thank you for your help and support. I know it will be a fun and successful year for the students. I look forward to working with you this year. Please check my wiki often for updates and great resources that have been set up to help you feel confident that your student is getting the most out of his or her 8 th grade science class!
Donations If you are able to, our class can always use donations of such items as: Glue sticks and glue Bottles Notecards Composition Notebooks Loose leaf paper Rubber Bands Two pocket, three prong folders Tissues Paper Clips Pencils
