4.a) Describe briefly the various forces acting on well foundation.
b) A circular well of 5m external diameter and steining thickness of 1m is used as a
foundation for a bridge pier is a sandy stratum. The submerged unit weight of sand
is 10 kN/m

. The well is subjected to a
horizontal force of 600 kN and a total moment of 5000 kN-m at the scour level.
The depth of the well below scour level is 12m. Check the lateral stability of the
well assuming it as light weight well.

5. An anchored cantilever sheet pile wall as shown below is penetrating into a
