Reflection on my journey through the tablet training course

Monday morning finally came. oh my God I said to myself. It was hard to believe that I
had to get out of my bed to start the training for the tablet in schools programme. Anyway
reali!ing that I had no choice but to fight my feeling I got out of bed went to the bathroom
brushed my teeth had my shower then got myself dressed and headed through the door. I never
stopped to prepare any brea"fast because I cannot eat so early in the morning.
#n my way to $panish %own all sorts of thoughts went through my head &hat will this
training be li"e' &ill it be an e(citing one ' #n reaching )ohnathan Grant *igh $chool I saw
three of my colleagues who waved their hands indicating that I should come upstairs. At +
ocloc" the tablets were still not ready and the frustration began there. &e were told that the
tablets would not reach until eleven o,cloc" that day. &hile we waited our lecturer tried here best
to "eep us occupied while we an(iously awaited the arrival of the tablets. $oon eleven o,cloc"
turned into a much longer waiting time. -pon the arrival of the tablets there were a number of
papers to sign which too" some time. %o my surprise and the not to mention the shoc" of other
colleagues the tablets were not as sturdy as we thought. Immediately I thought about the
students that I teach "nowing that they have intellectual disabilities and some of them have
physical challenges. .y the end of the day there were about two persons who were not able to
use their tablets because they were not wor"ing properly.#n the other hand it was not just the
tablets that posed challenges the facilities for lunch was very disappointing as we had to
consume our food in a dirty room and the bathrooms were uninviting.
*owever it should be noted that amidst the challenges I was able to learn a lot. I was
introduced to a number of apps. %hat would ma"e my lessons more interesting. %he ones that
were very interesting to me were/ 0dmodo downloading apps from google play %ed0d and last
but not least &eebly. I have found weebly to be very interesting because I was able to create my
own website. I also had fun completing the activities about my learning styles.
As I went through the training what really "ept me going was the thought that I was
learning something that will help me to have a greater impact on my students and the way in
which they learn. Another interesting thought that had an impact on me was the thought that was
given by Mrs. &illiams )ac" where 1ewey states that if we teach today the way we taught
yesterday we would have robbed our children of the future. *aving a child myself has also been
my motivation to complete the training the training.
