Media Influence
Outcomes addressed:
Analyze materials for bias and stereotypes and replace these with accurate information.


Instructions:
Answer the first question below, then be prepared to discuss with the class. Watch the video clips and images that show Aboriginal
stereotypes and answer the second question comparing your thoughts before and after viewing the texts.

Questions:
1) What stereotypical images of Aboriginal people are portrayed in the media?







2) How do your answers compare to the stereotypical images displayed in the text you viewed in class? Record additional
stereotypes not already answered.





Instructions:
You now have the opportunity to analyze some images of your own. But first I will show you how by giving you an example that I
have completed, then we will do one as a class, then you will do one of your own.

- European doesnt want to be scalped
- historically scalping was a European custom, not First Nations
- in the U.S payment would be received for each Indian scalp turned in

TRY IT ON YOUR OWN:
Find two images in the media that demonstrate a cultural stereotype. Use the computers or iPads to find the image. Record the
type of text (picture, video, add, etc.) beside the Example title. Provide a copy of the image and record the stereotypes portrayed.
