Case Study: Our Engineers Are Just Not


Motivated











INTRODUCTION:
Having moved to a new company the manager in the given case faces various
challenges with respect to the employees of the company. Even after being
employed at a large company with 8000 employees and annual sales of rupees 700
cr. the employees are just not motivated enough to deliver the desired results. Even
though the manger believes that they are competent he is still unable to make them
produce to the best of their efficiency.

SWOT ANALYSIS: (employees)
Strengths-
Extremely competent with their work
Best salaries compared to other companies in the industry
Since the job is fairly routine work there are not many changes involved.
Weakness-
Lack of motivation
Their lack of interest causes them to be unable to meet the given deadlines.
Opportunity-
If the employees finish their jobs on time and show a little more interest in
their work the management may think of promoting them or additional
incentives.
Threats-
Their disinterested attitude will never allow them to grow in the
organization.
The management may decide to throw them out and appoint new employees.

1. Why are the employees not motivated?
The reasons for the employees lack of motivation may be:
Their job type is routine and mundane
Since the quality of their work is hard to evaluate their attitude
towards their work gets even more laid back.
The pay and incentives are fixed for all employees and nothing extra
is given for doing a better or extra job.
There are no promotions inside the organization

2. What should the management do to correct the situation?
Tell the employees that they are extremely competent in their work
and the management is also aware of that fact.
Provide performance based incentives.
Encourage promotions within the organization
