Dear Families and Guardians,

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! With the new school year comes a change in
the way the 6th grade language arts team will determine grades. These changes are based on
our newly acquired knowledge of best grading practices. You will find these changes outlined
below:

6th Grade Language Arts Grading Policy:

All homework, assignments, and in-class activities that are practice will NOT figure into
the students reported grade.

Any practice homework, assignment, or activity that is completed with less than 80%
accuracy will be returned for the student to correct mistakes.

Practice work will still be shown on Infinite Campus (with no grade attached) so that
parents and students can see progress that has been made on those activities.

Grades will be determined by assessments in the forms of tests, papers, and projects.

Retakes of assessments will be required for students who score a 70% or below.

Retakes of assessments will be optional for students who score above 70%.

Students will be allowed to retake assessments as many times as necessary either
before school or after school. (Any other times will need to be approved by the teacher).

We realize this may be a significant change for you and your child. However, by
changing our grading practices in this manner, letter grades will more accurately represent what
your child knows and the level of proficiency at which your child is performing at any given time.

Please feel free to contact your childs language arts teacher with any questions or concerns.

We wish you a successful school year!
