All about the ALS Disease

Have you ever wondered what the
ALS disease is?
It all got discovered by Jean Martin Charcot,
French neurologist in 1869.But it wasnt until
Lou Gehrig from the time 1939, got it all
known.

ALS stands for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Also known as motor neurone disease, Charcot disease,
and, in the USA, Lou Gehrigs disease.
Have you ever wondered what ALS
does to your body?
It affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal
cord.
It strikes people between ages 40 and 70.
When the motor neurons die, the ability to
initiate and control muscle movement will
be lost.
Do you know the symptoms that
cause ALS?
The early symptoms include trouble
swallowing, cramping, or stiffness of
affected muscles.

o About 75% of people contracting the disease experience
limb onset that is first symptoms in the arms or legs.
o About 25% of people contracting the disease experience
bulbar onset ALS. That is speaking difficulty,
swallowing, and loss of tongue mobility.
