HP ProCurve Switch 1810G Series How to Create a VLAN
and Configure Ports Within the VLAN
SYNOPSIS: This document will describe how to create a VLAN on the HP ProCurve Switch 1810 family and how to configure ports within the newly created VLAN. J9450A (1810G-24), J9449A (1810G-8)
STEPS: 1) Select VLANs > VLAN Configuration from the left menu. The VLAN Configuration window is displayed:
2) Select the Create VLAN checkbox and enter a VLAN ID number within the Create VLAN ID field.
3) Click Apply. The new VLAN is listed on the lower portion of the page.
4) Friendly names may be configured for a VLAN by selecting the checkbox for Set Name. Type the VLANs name. Click Apply in order to save these changes.
5) The VLANs > VLAN Ports screen permits changes to the Port Priority. The Primary VLAN ID (PVID) indicates the VLAN for which a given port is currently Untagged. The PVID cannot be changed in this screen and is read-only.
6) Assign VLAN Port Memberships by browsing to VLANs > Participation/Tagging.
7) To assign ports to a configured VLAN, select the VLAN ID from the VLAN pull-down menu.
8) Click the box displayed under a Port number to change its membership status to U(Untagged), T(Tagged), or E(Exclude All). By default, all ports are Excluded from a VLAN until memberships are changed to Untagged or Tagged. Click Apply.
9) Once the changes are applied, note that ports assigned as Untagged members of the new VLAN are now Excluded from VLAN 1. A port can only be an Untagged member of only one VLAN. It must be assigned Tagged to any other VLANs for which it is a member.
CAUTION! Use caution when moving ports to a new VLAN and be sure to carefully plan all VLAN configurations. By default, the switchs management IP address is assigned to VLAN 1. If the port to which the management computer is connected is assigned to another VLAN, then access to the switch is lost. The management PC must be connected to a port that is a member of VLAN 1 to regain switch management access. If all ports are assigned to other VLANs, and the Management VLAN ID is unchanged, then it is likely that administrative access will be completely lost. If this happens, reset the switch to factory default settings in order to recover.
