Abstract

Softwares in architectural education in India has not gained as much momentum as
architectural curriculums in other countries. This paper reports the finding of a case study about
the importance of softwares, their implementation in the design stages and the current scenario of
curriculums in few colleges in India. An online survey was conducted which focused on three user
groups - students, faculties and practicing professionals. A total of hundred five responses was
received of which - sixty six were students, thirteen were faculty and the remaining twenty six
professionals. The survey was oriented to understand the various opinions of these user groups.
The survey was then analyzed for each individual group after which a collective analysis was
made. The survey revealed that there is a gap in terms of how softwares are perceived and taught
in the education and what role they play in the industry, paving way for softwares to have a better
role in architectural education altogether.
