A little late into this.

To take a holistic historical approach to this (and some insight) government energy efficiency has
always been cyclic and every "new" government comes up with a "new" scheme to instigate this
(Energy Efficiency Office "Best practice", ETSU,EST, Action Energy>Carbon Trust to name but a few).
All of these have been supported by our industry with quite heavy restrictions in terms of the
persons (qualifications experience etc) that carry out the assessments and with requirement for
complete impartiality in carrying out assessments; and therein lies the problem to all these past
schemes; impartiality and our experience/knowledge means that
- we have nothing to gain telling a commercial client to install technology or measures that will take
10+ years to pay for themselves - and thus we do not - would you even try, taking into consideration
"thank you for your input - we will call you when we have done all the low cost measures
What is the end game??
Sustainability covers not only environmental but financial energy efficiency is just one part
Maslow we need to eat, we need to sleep, we need to be safe, we need to spend time with our
families.
Do not look under hood- no parts in this are serviceable by the user dumbing down the advice
people are lost/dumfounded.
Solution: Simplify funding taught to rely on outsourced knowledge. Bank of Dave approach
needed with all profits re-invested
Client appreciation/sentiment Fundamentally there is a physical limit to saving energy - A good
energy consultant/adviser needs to know that limit and when to bow out if youve done your job,
educated the client and reached the physical limit of savings move on to the next project.
Problem: There is always one (corrupt) who does not play by the rules; particularly in our gala bingo
on line quick win lottery culture (give people hope so they tow the line but make sure it is so
remote that it is unobtainable), the country is in financial crisis = Fear and resultant stress drives
corruption a quick win to get me out of a hole.
Stuff competitive tendering one price for each grade, a fair price based on your knowledge,
experience etc. If you want to go up a grade, get more experience and go learn reward for hard
work.
