At eleven o’clock one day a small

amount of classes from our school

attended our school hall to watch an
orchestra of six from Christchurch
play. The orchestra was called
Outreach.

TRUMPET
One instrument we saw was a
trumpet. A trumpet is a small
instrument but not too small. There
was a trumpet that was about the size
of a toy called the picolo trumpet but
the normal sized trumpet was about
thirty centimeters. This trumpet made
a loud noise. A trumpet has three
button things for notes.
HORN
Another instrument we saw was a
horn. The horn comes from the horn
that the postmen used to use when
they delivered mail. Back in the time
when the postmen used these
instruments they didn’t have lots of
fancy button things in the centre. Also
back in those days anyone who played
these instruments had to use their
fists to play different notes.

DRUMS
One man in Outreach played the
drums. A drum kit has so many
different parts it’s hard to remember
them all. The drum is a loud
instrument and many people think it is
only used for rock concerts but no –
the drums can also be played in an
orchestra.
These are only three of the six
instruments played in Outreach – a
marvelous orchestra from
Christchurch.
