All About Watson
Thesis: Doyles detective stories have been adapted to modern day by changing the location of
the story, updating technology, and even changing the gender of Watson.

Later in this scene, Watson notices how Adlers death has taken a toll on Holmes and
attempts to comfort him. By appealing to Holmess emotional side, this shows Watson being
more than a sidekick; she is being a companion, a friend. Emily Asher-Perrin, a writer for Tor,
states illustrates how Holmes requires friends who are willing to give him a wider berth
(Asher-Perrin). Watson grounds Holmes and reminds him of his humanity and provides for him
when he is lost. The pilot of Elementary displays another scene when Watson demands Holmes
to wait in the car because of his rude behavior towards the victim (Doherty). This is another
representation of Watson grounding Holmes. The detective, who is known to be emotionless,
suddenly apologizes for his ignorant behavior. The convention of the sidekick has been altered
since the Victoria era, but it still helps the audience see the human side of Holmes.
